Digimend is committed to recycling used cell phones and other electronics.

Digimend gladly accepts all electronic devices for recycling; with its focus on mp3 players, cell phones, pda’s, gaming devices and computers.

Prior to donating or recycling your cell phone, the following prerequisites are in order:

1. Be sure to have your service terminated. This may already be done if your contract has expired. If your contract hasn’t expired, make sure you cancel it or get a new phone to use.

2. Clear the phone’s memory of contacts and any other stored information. Manually delete all information and follow instructions from your wireless carrier or the product user manual on how to conduct a factory hard reset. Digimend will remove all data when the device is received.

3. Remove your SIM card and shred or cut it in half. If you are not sure if your phone uses a SIM card or if you need assistance removing your SIM card, contact your service provider or manufacturer.

Many of your broken, obsolete, or unwanted gadgets are just waiting to be reincarnated. Bring them to us and we’ll make sure they’re properly and safely recycled, so they have the chance to, perhaps, come back as something more wondrous. It’s all part of our efforts to make Earth a greener planet.

Often, people get frustrated when they see sneaky little programs called spyware overwhelming their computer resources or merely preventing them from opening programs and browsers. What’s even more frustrating is the fact that you have your antivirus program installed and it failed to capture the malware and remove it from your hard drive.

There are few things to consider in order to prevent this from happening. First of all, choose the right antivirus/malware removal software. When you buy a new computer, there is always some antivirus program preinstalled for you. I suggest removing it. They’re not that good. And they are just trial programs:a user might forget to renew the licence after the trial period expires leaving the computer at risk. You might also see some scanning programs that pop-up on the screen that do a scan and when it’s done they offer you do buy them to finish removing the malware. These kind of programs are either malware themselves or they’re an internet scam. Avoid them at all time!

In addition to pre-installed and fake antivirus programs, don’t go with the software provided by your internet service provider either. It’s not reliable enough as internet providers are not specializing in antiviruses, they’re just service providers!

What I really suggest you to do is to buy a good legal antivirus in any electronics store. Don’t go with the cheap one though! Good ones start with a 50-dollar licences renewable every year. They’re a bit pricey, but they’re well worth your peace of mind. And always remember to remove your old antivirus before installing the new one to avoid conflicts between them resulting in viruses and other malware getting through.

If you’re not sure about which programs are right for you, please contact us and we’ll be more than happy to give a free qualified advice.

Has it ever happened to you that all of a sudden you lose a signal from your wireless router? You can see it by looking at a wireless signal icon on a taskbar in the lower right corner of your computer desktop, right next to the computer’s clock and date icon. The computer that fails to receive a signal from a router will have a yellow exclamation mark over the wireless signal icon. The router is actually on, all lights on it are green, it’s just kind of frozen or idle. It happens often.

Now, what if you don’t have a physical access to your router? Say, you live in a shared house with the actual wireless router located in another room that you don’t have access to. Or you just don’t want to manually reset the router by pressing the power button off and on because it’s going to take a few minutes for it to come back.

Here’s a quick fix. In your Windows Vista/7 system, go to Start, in the Search box type “cmd” to open a command prompt. In your Windows XP system go to Start>Run and type “cmd”. In command prompt type “ipconfig /all”. In the list that appears look for “Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection”. Note the IPv4 address. That’s the physical address of your wireless router. Let’s say the address is 192.168.0.40. Try to ping it by typing “ping 192.168.0.40″. Then press Enter.

Congratulations, you’ve just woke up your wireless router remotely! If that doesn’t work, try pinging the “Default gateway” address shown right below the IPv4 address. Pinging either one of the IP addresses will bounce your router, resuming your wireless signal.

Universal power adapter seems like a tempting choice when your OEM(Original Equipment Manufacturer) adapter fails. Yes, it can be plugged to virtually any laptop and it’ll work just fine. But one can run over some reefs and rocks when using it in the long term.

First of all, an universal AC adapter’s tip might not sit well in laptop’s power jack because adapter is not designed for that particular laptop model. The tip can sit loosely in the jack, which can in turn loosen the jack itself affecting the laptop’s ability to stay powered.

Second, every universal power adapter has voltage switches which have to be set according to laptops specifications. One might simply forget to switch(or can do so by accident) to a correct voltage:computer will work just fine for some time until battery begins to wear down until it becomes completely useless.

Then, the current that the laptop draws from the universal power adapter may not be appropriate for your laptop. I have discussed this issue in detail in my previous post Danger of using incompatible laptop AC adapters.

Finally, universal AC adapters are more expensive that OEM or replacement ones. My suggestion is to buy a replacement adapter(they’re even cheaper than OEM ones) with exact specifications for your computer. The difference between replacement and OEM adapters is that replacement adapters are manufactured by many private companies using exact specs(volts and amps) for a particular model whereas OEM adapters are manufactured by laptop manufacturers themselves, like HP or Toshiba.

Universal power adapter can be helpful only as a temporary solution:computer technicians use it often when servicing computers when the original AC adapter is not available. Other than that, I’d rather use a replacement or OEM one.

One of the major problems that laptop users face is failed or nearly failed battery. I had a few customers who had such problems and their laptops had these symptoms: they were either unable to power on their computer through a battery or saw an error message on a blue screen during boot that told them their battery was having trouble getting fully charged.

But their laptop woes didn’t stop right there! Upon further examination I noticed that not only the battery was approaching a near death, but also the hard drive was unable to boot to the main drive (drive C:, for example). Later the hard drive turned out to be kaput. Battery and hard drive failure happened within a very little time span. Strange, something might’ve gone wrong!

Then, I noticed they were using an non-original AC adapter with different amperage and voltage than the original one. The adapter was, say, 18.5V and 4.9A whereas the original one had these numbers-18.5V and 3.47A. I’ve heard many people say, including computer techs, that if you plug in a 90W adapter into the computer that supports only 65W, it won’t harm your laptop because the motherboard limits the amount of current that it can take, in other words, it won’t take more amps than it can support!

Well, they can say all they want, maybe the theory is right, but experience tells me that this assumption is wrong! I’ve seen components die not long after an incompatible AC adapter was first used. An incompatible adapter slowly wears down the battery, then the hard drive’s doomsday comes. It might take months, normally between 3 to 6 months.

The theory is good until it is refuted in practice. No one knows what’s happening in the laptop’s motherboard. Laptop manufacturers give very little information on how their internal electronic components operate and they need to sell their batteries, adapters and other components. How can it be explained that right after the new laptop model comes out manufacturers start selling their replacement adapters and batteries? Normally, laptop adapters and batteries won’t fail within the first few months(maybe only a fraction of them or unless you physically damage them), but manufacturers already have a large stock of replacement components ready for sale! You understand where I’m leaning toward.

After all, there’s a reason why they say in their user manuals that a computer part with exact specifications should be used, that is one should use exact amps and volts that their computer part is supposed to support! They never say it’s OK to plug the 90W AC adapter into a 65W motherboard. So we won’t!
